Spring 2016 marked the first faculty development program hosted by FUA. The twice-yearly program hosts selected candidates from affiliate institutions for a week in Florence, and the first edition was held from March 21 to 25. Visiting faculty for Spring 2016 represented international backgrounds and academic institutions:
- Max Saito: Westfield State University, Massachusetts, USA
- Mario Cortés Garay, Tecnológico de Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, Mexico
- John Stanko, University of South Florida, Florida, USA
The 1 to 2-day seminars led by the visiting faculty addressed a broad diversity of academic disciplines in the areas of sustainability (Saito), marketing in the food and wine industry (Cortés Garay), and visual communication (Stanko). In addition to leading seminars, the faculty development program allowed visiting faculty to interact with FUA staff and faculty to exchange ideas and discuss educational strategies from the perspectives of international education and specific academic disciplines.
FUA’s objective is to provide further internationalizing learning opportunities for the student body in Florence during the seminars week and create a stimulating, mutually beneficial dialog between visiting and local faculty. Faculty development will be featured during the 8th week of each academic season and the next edition is slated for this fall.
