On Tuesday, December 3rd at 7 p.m., FUA-AUF’s FLY held a fashion show entitled We Are Handsome, (W.A.H.) at Borgo Pinti, 20r. The of the event was “Miami”, there were bright neon signs and colourful decorations all to showcase the students’ hard work from this semester.
The FUA-AUF classes that showcased their fashion items were: Apparel Design, Leather Technology, and Draping. The SPEL program students from Fashion Industry and Fashion and Accessories Design also displayed their work, The Makers’ Lab: “Reinventing a Man’s Shirt”. The students from the fashion classes were: Flora Abel, Solene Bonnet, Stephanie Devore, Mercedes Pinnell, Zhuang “Candice” Ziteng, Genna Gots, Bray Griffith Potter, Lindsey Edh, and James Lykes II. These students’ designs were modelled by Stephanie Devore, Mercedes Pinnel, Zhuang “Candice” Ziteng, Madeline Brandner, Ronit Feldman, Emma Girasoli, and myself.
Having a behind-the-scenes perspective of the W.A.H. show, I can say that the passion and hard work put into this event was definitely reflected in the success of the event. Watching Gaia and Marysol supporting the student coordinators - RobbieAnn Cabaniero-Buendia, Mykayla Green, and Luisa Spada - realize their vision, made me understand how important the evening was for all involved with FLY; students and faculty alike.
From the music by DJ Miki Semascus to the talented dance performance by the Hip Hop and Street Dance Class students (Molly Buzanis, Molly Nunn, and Elisa Palumbo), W.A.H. began on a good note. From backstage you could feel the energy and excitement, the nervous jitters, but most of all the fun! We were supporting our fellow students by exhibiting their garments for all to see. Walking down the runway I saw faces I knew, faces I didn’t, but what they had in common was an expression of awe due to the fantastic clothes.
