Florence University of the Arts offers a wide variety of courses for students to take while they are studying abroad. One of the more unique classes within the field of Communications is Instant Communication: Words Images and News. The course offers unique insight into one of the many nuances of working in this particular job field: digital media production and editing. Led by instructor Marco Gualtieri, Instant Communication delves into many topics such as photo, video, and audio production. Students are asked to create media projects with all three of those components and post them on the class Instagram account for review. Through lectures and hands- on lessons, the class is set up to prepare students for the most important assignment of the semester, the Final Project. Gualtieri has asked his students to create a three to five minute multimedia piece about one of the four historic neighborhoods in Florence. This will give them the chance to not only educate themselves more on this historical city, but also allows them to apply what they have learned in class to the real world. When asked about the uniqueness of this course and how it differs from others offered in the communication field, Gualtieri states that “communication is made of different aspects and we give precedence to the field recording of content and the editing of a final piece.” This class focuses on the use of mobile devices such as tablets and phones in order to convey the world around them. In the age where technology is quickly taking over, centering this course around the use of technological devices helps students stay
up-to-date with how news and images are being spread throughout the world. It also allows his students to be more well-rounded in the field of communications as a whole. “Learning how to use, in a professional way, the self contained technology of a mobile device will give the students the tool to put themselves on the market for news gathering, or PR services,” Gualtieri said.  Gualtieri teaches the “language” of multimedia at great lengths to give the students a complete understanding of how to correctly use these tools in a professional way. This course helps prepare students for important aspects in the field of communications.
