After the inaugural fall season of the Palazzi Community Center, the new edition of the spring 2021 calendar has been released for student and local community outreach in Florence.
The Palazzi Community Center is an initiative that seeks to generate sustainable approaches to community support. Hosted within the Apicius Palazzo Villani Stiozzi Ridolfi campus location in Via Ricasoli 21, the center features Palazzi CEMI activities for wellness activities, food and wine seminars featuring local producers, sustainability talks and readings, city walks for discovering Florence, and a seasonal vintage market organized by FLY.
Also available are services for the Florentine community such as after-school programs for children, event venue services, and ongoing opening hours at the Fedora pastry lab and bistro. A recent addition to the center is the Pomario botanical retail store, a new CEMI affiliated with FUA-AUF's International School of Business for involving students in practices of urban ecology.
Several initiatives of the community center calendar take place in the Cafaggio del Vescovo historic garden of the Via Ricasoli location. The garden belonged to the Bishop of Florence in the 1200s, and was part of a larger property called the Cafaggio del Vescovo mentioned in historical documents as “a beautiful garden with table grapes and fruit trees that was rented out...” The building, on the other hand, was divided into two homes known as the “big house and the small house,” and was documented in the 1400s as the property of the Falcucci family. An important element of the community center's opening also addresses the institutional commitment to reopen Florentine green spaces to the general public.
